After completing his dance education, Jan Kooijman joined Scapino Ballet in 2000 and worked as a professional dancer until 2009. His first notable acting role to reach wide audiences was Danny de Jong in the soap Goede tijden, slechte tijden, a role he held between February 2009 and February 2012.

Meanwhile, in 2009 he became one of the judges on the Dutch version of So You Think You Can Dance. Over the years he has hosted and presented several programmes on Dutch and Belgian television. He has also moved into feature films and voice acting; lead roles in movies like Verliefd op Ibiza (2013), De Zevende Hemel (2017), Verliefd op Cuba (2019), Alles is Zoals het Zou Moeten Zijn (2020) among others.

On stage he has performed in productions such as Nureyev (2023) and the musical Pretty Woman (2023).
