Raúl Grijalva began his political journey as a community activist and later served on the Tucson Unified School District Governing Board. He was elected to the Pima County Board of Supervisors, serving from 1989 to 2002.
In 2002, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Arizona’s 7th district (later renumbered as the 3rd district due to redistricting), a position he held until his retirement in 2025.
