Early Life and Education

Alex Boniello was born on October 5, 1990, in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey, and as now is 35 years old. Growing up near the Meadowlands in Bergen County, he began performing in rock bands in the New York/New Jersey area as a guitarist and singer, and during his high school years acted in theatre productions. He attended Wagner College, where he studied drama.

Alex Boniello became engaged to his long-term girlfriend April Lavalle on May 9, 2021. The couple married on October 31, 2022. In September 2024, April publicly revealed that they were going through a breakup. Alex Boniello’s professional career includes theatre, television, film, music and writing. He began in theatre, performing in the national tour of the musical American Idiot (2013-14) as part of the ensemble and understudy for key roles.

In 2014 he appeared in the concert/Off-Broadway premiere of 21 Chump Street, and in 2015 he performed in the Off-Broadway production of Brooklynite.

In 2015, he joined the Deaf West Theatre revival of Spring Awakening as the voice of Moritz, including on Broadway. In April 2018 it was announced that Alex would replace Mike Faist as Connor Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen, making his Broadway debut in that role on May 15, 2018, and remained until January 26, 2020.
