Jeff Chandler left the army and moved to Los Angeles in December 1945. He had saved up $3,000. Soon after he arrived, he got into a serious car accident. This happened on his way to a screen test, and it left a big scar on his forehead. At first, Chandler had a hard time finding work in Hollywood.
He spent all his savings before he landed his first job as a radio actor in May 1946. After that, he appeared in shows like Escape and Academy Award Theater. He became famous for playing the lead role in Michael Shayne. Chandler was also the first actor to play Chad Remington in Frontier Town.
Jeff Chandler was on a show called Rogue’s Gallery with Dick Powell. Dick liked Jeff‘s acting a lot. He asked Columbia Pictures to give Jeff his first film role. Jeff became more popular when he played Eve Arden‘s love interest on the radio show Our Miss Brooks. The show started in July 1948 and became extremely popular.
Jeff Chandler started a new production company called August. He made a Western film named The Plunderers. Allied Artists distributed the film. They liked it so much that they asked for three more movies from August.
However, Chandler never got to make those films. His next project was The Story of David. This film was made for American TV, which was his first work in that area. It was also shown in theaters in other countries.
