Career
Sharad S. Kapoor began his career in Mumbai in 1993, initially aspiring to be a leading actor. After struggling to secure film roles, he worked as an assistant director on Lakshmanrekha (1991) under Sunil Sikand and on Angaar (1992) with Shashilal K. Nair.
His acting debut came with the TV serials Swabhimaan, Aankhen, and Chahat aur Nafrat (1995–1996), directed by Mahesh Bhatt, who recognized his potential and cast him in Dastak (1996) as a romantic lead opposite Sushmita Sen.
The film flopped, as did his subsequent lead roles in Mera Pyara Bharat (1994) and Hum Bhi (1995), leading to a career setback. His persistence paid off when he landed the role of Prakash, the Bichoo Gang leader, in Josh (2000), earning a Filmfare Best Villain Award nomination for his intense performance opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
In the 2000s, Kapoor became known for supporting and antagonistic roles in films like Khauff (2000), Hathyar (2002), Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein (2002), LOC: Kargil (2003), and Lakshya (2004), where he starred alongside Hrithik Roshan.
Despite working with industry giants like Salman Khan in Jai Ho (2014), many of his films, including Chaahat Ek Nasha (2005) and Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena (2005), were commercially unsuccessful. He also appeared in Bengali films like Kalo Chita (2004) and Wanted (2010).
After a career hiatus due to a three-year world tour and business ventures, Kapoor made a comeback with Jai Ho (2014) and took on diverse roles, such as in Jiah Aur Jiah (2017), which echoed Amitabh Bachchan’s role in Nishabd.
Kapoor’s recent work includes Jabariya Jodi (2019), No Means No (2022), and The Good Maharaja (2023), with ongoing projects reflecting his continued presence in the industry.
Beyond acting, he has starred in shelved films like Radheshyam Sitaram (2001) and Bhai Log (2000) and owns two restaurants, Destination in Mumbai and Tangerine One in Bangalore. His career is marked by resilience, transitioning from a struggling actor to a versatile performer known for villainous roles, with a growing focus on entrepreneurship.
His contribution to both Hindi and Bengali cinema, though not always commercially successful, highlights his dedication to diverse roles.
