Early Life and Education
Skhumba Hlophe was on born 31 August 1981 and is now at the age of 44 years old. He was raised in Tembisa, Gauteng. After failing school four times, he finally passed matric at age 22.
He worked for 13 years as a clerk—or “senior personnel officer”—with SAPS before beginning stand-up comedy at Caprivi in Tembisa. His first gigs were to small audiences of 20–50 people, which he steadily grew by persevering in local comedy clubs.

Skhumba married television producer Dibakiso Moloi in 2011. The couple’s first child, daughter Nikiwe, arrived in 2007 from an earlier relationship; they later welcomed son Ali-Bongwe in 2011 and another son, Sinakhokonke Reatile “Panther” Hlophe, on 19 February 2018.
Career
Skhumba began performing in Tembisa around 2010, earning nominations at the Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards and a breakthrough in 2012 that led to Kaya FM’s annual cruise. He’s appeared at Soweto and Stand Up Zulu festivals, hosted Kaya FM’s Friday breakfast slot from 2017, and in May 2021 took over as co-host of “Thomas & Skhumba in the Morning.”
