Daniela Darcourt was born on April 20, 1996, in La Victoria, Lima, to Carlos Darcourt and Rosario Escurra. Growing up in a musical household—her father played percussion in local salsa bands and her mother enjoyed singing—she was exposed to artists like Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, and La Sonora Ponceña.
Daniela began performing publicly at age five and studied at Colegio Santa Rosa de Chosica. She trained in classical and modern dance and enrolled at Universidad Nacional de Música at 15 to study lyrical singing, but later left to focus on salsa full-time. She is of Peruvian ethnicity; her religion is unknown.
Career
Daniela Darcourt first gained national attention in 2014 when she joined the all-female orchestra Son Tentación as lead vocalist, touring Peru and recording two albums. In 2018 she stepped out as a solo artist with the single “Señor mentira,” which went viral and launched her career.
Her debut album Catarsis (2020) earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Salsa Album, and hits like “Probablemente,” “A esa,” and “Adiós amor” dominated radio and streaming charts across Latin America.
The following years brought explosive growth: she became the first Peruvian salsa artist to headline Teatro Caupolicán in Chile and the first Peruvian female singer to perform at Madison Square Garden (as a guest of Víctor Manuelle in 2022).
Her sophomore album Empezar de Nuevo (2022) was again nominated for a Latin Grammy, and she collaborated with giants such as Tito Nieves, Willy García, and You Salsa. She also starred in the musical film Buscando a Gisela and hosted her own television special on Latina TV.
Daniela Darcourt continues to dominate the salsa scene with sold-out concerts from Lima to New York, Miami, and Madrid.
She has won multiple Premios Luces as Best Tropical Artist and is widely regarded as the most important Peruvian voice in salsa today, carrying the torch for legends like Eva Ayllón and Lucho Barrios while adding her own modern flavor.
