Early Life and Education

Gisela Valcárcel was born on January 26, 1963, in La Victoria, Lima, to Jorge Valcárcel, a bus driver, and Teresa Álvarez, a housewife. She was the second of five children. At 15, she won the Miss Teenager Peru pageant, leading to modeling and small TV roles.

She completed secondary school at Colegio María Auxiliadora in Breña and briefly studied secretarial sciences, but her career took off before she pursued higher education. She is of Peruvian ethnicity; her religion is unknown.
