Karen Schwarz Espinoza was born on 21 January 1984 in Callao, Peru, the second of four children of Aldo Schwarz, a merchant marine, and Cecilia Espinoza. Raised in a middle-class family with strong ties to the port city, she spent part of her childhood in Callao before moving to Lima.
