At age ten, she relocated with her family to New York City, where she attended Public School 41 and the New York City Lab School for Collaborative Studies alongside future co-star Claire Danes.

In November 2011, Baccarin married film producer Austin Chick; their son, Julius, was born in October 2013, and they divorced in mid-2015.
