She has an elder sister, Amrita Rao, who is a well-known Bollywood actress.

Preetika completed her schooling at Convent Girls High School in Prabhadevi, Mumbai. She graduated with a major in History from Sophia College, Mumbai, and also earned a diploma in Advertising and Journalism.
