Resham, was born on October 2, 1968, in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan, grew up in a modest Punjabi household.

She lost her father before birth and her mother at age seven, leaving her and her siblings—elder sister Shamim and a brother—in the care of Shamim.

Resham completed her education up to matriculation (10th grade) in Lahore, where she showed an early flair for acting through school plays and theater.
