Tinka Kurti was born on 17 December 1932 in Sarajevo to ethnic Albanian parents from the Dibra region. Shortly after, her family returned to Albania, settling in Tirana.

At seventeen, she became one of the first students at the newly established Higher Institute of Acting (now the Academy of Arts) affiliated with the National Theatre of Albania.

She made her film debut in 1958 with Tana, the first Albanian feature film ever produced, and went on to star in many of the most important movies of Albanian socialist cinema, including Debatik (1961), Komisari i Dritës (1966), and Gjeneral Gramafoni (1978).

Even during the harsh years of the communist dictatorship, Kurti’s talent was undeniable, and she became a beloved figure across the country.

After the fall of communism she continued working actively, appearing in post-1990 classics such as Kolonel Bunker (1996) and Trimat (2004).
