Arjun Janya was born on 13 May 1980 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. His father is Ashwath Kumar and his mother is Anasooya (also spelled Anasuya), both private individuals supportive of his artistic pursuits.

He completed his schooling locally, then graduated from Seshadripuram College, Bangalore, followed by studies at Adarsha Polytechnic, Bengaluru.

He began his music journey by assisting established composers like V. Manohar and K. Kalyan and worked as a keyboard player in approximately 30 films before taking on independent composing projects.

Arjun Janya began his career by assisting composers such as V. Manohar and K. Kalyan and played keyboard for around thirty films.

His debut as an independent music director came with the Kannada film Autograph Please (2006), which received a modest opening. Broader recognition followed with Birugaali (2009), which brought widespread acclaim.

The film Kempegowda (2011) marked another major breakthrough; around this time, he adopted the name Arjun Janya on the advice of an astrologer and industry peer Sudeep.
