He formed Rockpile with Nick Lowe, Billy Bremner, and Terry Williams, though they recorded as solo acts first due to contracts.
Albums like Repeat When Necessary (1979) had hits such as “Girls Talk,” “Queen of Hearts,” and “Crawling from the Wreckage.” Rockpile released Seconds of Pleasure in 1980 before splitting.
