Early Life And Education
GG Allin was born as Jesus Christ Allin in Lancaster, New Hampshire 1956. His father, Merle Sr., a highly religious man, believed his son was destined to be a messianic figure, hence the unusual name.
After escaping an unstable household, his mother legally changed his name to Kevin Michael Allin in 1962. The nickname “GG” originated from his brother, Merle Jr., who mispronounced “Jesus” as “GG” when they were children.
GG grew up in East St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and had a troubled youth filled with rebellion and alienation. He graduated from Concord High School, but little is documented about any further formal education. From an early age, Allin was drawn to rock music, citing influences ranging from the Beatles to hardcore punk.
Career
GG Allin began his music career in the late 1970s as a drummer before evolving into a lead singer with the punk band The Jabbers. His early work had a more traditional punk sound, but his music and performances became increasingly chaotic and offensive as the years progressed. He went on to perform with numerous bands including The Scumfucs, The Texas Nazis, and his final backing band, The Murder Junkies.
His lyrics featured themes of violence, misogyny, substance abuse, and anti-authoritarianism, often leading to bans from venues and criminal charges. GG Allin became infamous not just for his lyrics but for his onstage antics, which included defecation, self-harm, and physical altercations with audience members.
He described his concerts as a form of “rock and roll terrorism” and claimed to be the last true embodiment of rock rebellion. Though reviled by the mainstream, Allin gained a significant cult following and continued to tour throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, even during and after several stints in prison.

Later in his life, Allin was romantically linked to Liz Mankowski, his partner at the time of his death.
