Early Life And Education

Joseph McElderry was born to Jim and Eileen McElderry on June 16, 1991, in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England. An only child, he was raised in a modest flat in South Shields. He attended Harton Technology College, where he played Danny Zuko in a school production of Grease.

Pursuing his passion for performance, McElderry studied at South Tyneside College before enrolling in Newcastle College’s Performance Academy. He earned a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts. He is of English nationality and practices Christianity.

Career

Joseph McElderry’s career began in 2009 with his participation in the sixth series of The X Factor. Mentored by Cheryl Cole, he captivated audiences with his vocal talent and ultimately won the competition. In 2010, he released his debut album, Wide Awake, under Syco Music.
