Lara Fabian was born on January 9, 1970, in Etterbeek, Belgium, to a Flemish Belgian father, Pierre Crokaert, a guitarist and former backing musician for Petula Clark, and a Sicilian Italian mother, Maria Luisa Serio.
She spent her first five years in Catania, Sicily, before the family settled in Ruisbroek, Belgium.
Her mixed Flemish and Sicilian heritage shaped her multicultural identity, and she grew up speaking Italian, French and later English and Spanish fluently.
