My First Story (stylized as MY FIRST STORY, マイ・ファースト・ストーリー or マイファス, MFS) is a Tokyo-based Japanese rock band formed in Shibuya in 2011.

Known for their powerful blend of post-hardcore, alternative rock, melodic hardcore, and pop-punk, the band has steadily grown from an energetic local act to one of Japan’s most exciting contemporary rock outfits.

Early Days & Members

Formation & Background

The formation of My First Story traces back to 2011, when vocalist Hiroki “Hiro” Moriuchi, bassist Nobuaki “Nob” Katō, and guitarist Teruki “Teru” Nishizawa—who had a previous connection with Hiro from high school came together under the guidance of industry contacts. They added members to complete the lineup, selecting Sho Tsuchiya (Sho) on lead guitar and Masack on drums.

Formation & Early Career

The band was initially formed in 2011. Within months of forming, My First Story made public appearances at local music events and released their debut album, My First Story, on April 4, 2012. Their initial release drew attention, and the band swiftly sold out their first independent shows and earned slots at prominent festivals like Summer Sonic.

Career

2013–2015: Rising Momentum

Their second album, The Story is My Life (2013), was followed by sold‑out tours and performances at major festivals such as Punkspring and Rock in Japan. In 2014, they released Itsuwari Neurose, which included a tribute song (“Someday”) following the death of vocalist K; the album charted at No. 14 on Oricon.

2015–2016: Lineup Changes & Milestone Achievements

In 2015, Sho went on hiatus, and in early 2016, drummer Masack departed. Kid’z joined thereafter. The updated lineup embarked on the ambitious “We’re Just Waiting 4 You Tour” across all 47 Japanese prefectures, culminating in a landmark performance at Nippon Budokan—an achievement punctuated with the release of the album Antithese, which reached No. 4 on Oricon charts.

2017–2018: Expanding Horizons

The band released their orchestral rearrangement The Premium Symphony (2018) and supported Fall Out Boy at Nippon Budokan. They also staged large-scale concerts, including “The Premium Symphony” with live orchestral arrangements and choir.

2019–2021: Growth & Reflection

In 2019, the single “Mukoku” was delayed due to a collaboration controversy. In 2020, the album V hit No. 2 on Japanese charts.

2022–Present: Legacy & Cultural Impact

Their best-of compilation X was released in 2022, followed by a landmark joint performance with One Ok Rock at Tokyo Dome in November 2023. In 2024, My First Story collaborated with Hyde on the opening (“Mugen”) and ending (“Tokoshie”) themes for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 4—both enjoying significant commercial success.

Media & Collaborations

The band performed theme songs for anime such as Nobunaga Concerto (“Fukyagaku Replace”), Golden Kamuy Season 2 (“Reimei” with Sayuri), and Kengan Ashura (“King & Ashley”).

They also collaborated with game soundtracks, commercials, and movies—for instance, “Alone” (TVCM) and “Smash Out!!” (Shinjuku Swan II).
