Early Life and Education

Fernando Fakri de Assis is now 45 years old; he was born on September 15, 1980, in São Paulo, but was raised in the city of Sorocaba, which later inspired his stage name. During his childhood he lived with his mother Renata Maria Nogueira Fakri de Assis and father José Carlos Assis, alongside his two sisters Karina and Juliana.

He enrolled in agronomy studies in Londrina, where he attended university and pursued a course in agronomy. During his time in college he began performing in local bars and university circuits, singing covers and his own compositions. Though he intended to graduate, his music career started gaining traction and he did not complete his degree.

Personal Life

In December 2019, Sorocaba married Biah Rodrigues, who had been Miss Distrito Federal in 2018 and a veterinary medicine student. The couple had become engaged a month prior during a trip to Fernando de Noronha.

Their first child, a son named Theo, was born on May 17, 2020. Their daughter Fernanda arrived in November 2021. In early 2024 they publicly announced they were expecting twins.

Career

Sorocaba’s musical journey began with smaller partnerships—he first was part of duos such as Kadu & Sorocaba and Marquinho & Sorocaba before gaining wider attention. During his university years in Londrina, his performances in bars earned him gradually increasing recognition. In 2006 he released a CD and DVD titled Fernando & Sorocaba Ao Vivo em Londrina, marking the start of his recorded work.

He then met Fernando Zor (Fernando Zorzanello Bonifácio), and the two formed the duo Fernando & Sorocaba in 2007.

The duo signed with major labels, released live and studio albums, and became prominent in the Brazilian sertanejo genre. Sorocaba also became a prolific composer, having written over 300 songs that have been recorded by himself and by other artists including Luan Santana.

He repeatedly led or ranked highly in Brazil’s ECAD (Central Office for Collection and Distribution) for royalty earnings, being one of the top earners in several years.
