Deepinder Goyal was born on January 26, 1983, in Muktsar, Punjab, India. He was raised in a middle-class family; both his parents were teachers, with his father teaching Botany and his mother teaching English. Goyal completed his schooling at DAV College, Chandigarh.

After graduating from IIT Delhi, Deepinder Goyal began his career as an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company in New Delhi. During his tenure, he noticed colleagues queuing up to access restaurant menus, which sparked the idea for an online platform to digitize menus.

This led to the creation of Foodiebay in 2008, which was later rebranded as Zomato. Under Goyal’s leadership, Zomato expanded its services globally, offering food delivery, restaurant discovery, and other related services.
