Meet Shweta Menon’s Spouses: Sreevalsan Menon and Bobby Bhonsle

Shweta Menon is a prominent Indian actress, model, and television anchor who has left a lasting impression in both the Malayalam and Hindi film industries.

Known for her bold roles and versatile performances, she has carved a niche for herself through a combination of talent, determination, and individuality.

Born on April 23, 1974, in Chandigarh, India, Shweta hails from a Malayali family. Her father, Naranankutty Menon, served as a Flight Lieutenant in the Indian Air Force, while her mother, Sarada Menon, was a homemaker.

The family traces its roots to Valanchery in the Malappuram district of Kerala. Due to her father’s career, Shweta spent her childhood in various cities across India, including Allahabad, Pune, and Pathankot—experiences that broadened her perspective but never distanced her from her Kerala heritage.

Shweta completed her schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, East Hill, Kozhikode, where she first demonstrated a flair for the performing arts. Her early inclination toward modeling led her to participate in beauty pageants, and in 1994, she gained national attention after winning the Femina Miss India Asia Pacific title.

She later transitioned successfully into acting, delivering acclaimed performances in films like Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha and Salt N’ Pepper, both of which earned her the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress.

Beyond her professional achievements, Shweta’s personal life has also attracted public interest. She has been married twice—first to Bobby Bhonsle, and later to Sreevalsan Menon. Shweta Menon’s first marriage was to Bobby Bhonsle, a Bollywood model, actor, and writer, in 2004. The couple’s relationship began with a decade-long friendship that blossomed into romance.

However, their marriage, which Shweta later described as a hasty decision, was short-lived, ending in divorce in 2007 after three years. In interviews, Shweta has been candid about the challenges she faced during this period, calling the marriage “the biggest mistake of my life.”

She attributed the decision to her naivety and the loneliness she experienced while working in Mumbai’s fast-paced film and modeling industry.

Shweta’s father, T.V. Narayanankutty, a former Flight Lieutenant in the Indian Air Force, had cautioned her against the marriage, predicting regret. Reflecting on this, Shweta shared that her father’s leniency and her upbringing, which typically afforded her the same freedom as boys, contributed to her impulsive decision.

She recounted how the cultural differences and rigid expectations of Bobby’s family, reportedly tied to the Gwalior Scindia family, added strain to their relationship. Shweta described a household bound by strict customs, where she felt restricted and unable to align with the traditional roles expected of her.

Bobby Bhonsle, who also worked as a scriptwriter for Balaji Telefilms’ shows like Kasamh Se, faced personal struggles post-divorce. Reports from 2008 indicate that Bobby was admitted for psychiatric treatment due to bipolar disorder, with sources suggesting that Shweta’s refusal to join his film project Johnny Meets Walker contributed to a relapse.

Sreevalsan Menon

After the challenges of her first marriage, Shweta found love again with Sreevalsan Menon, a journalist from Thrissur, Kerala, whom she married on June 18, 2011.

Their love story began in 2006 when Sreevalsan, then working for a leading Malayalam media group in Mumbai, coordinated a fashion shoot featuring Shweta for a women’s magazine.

Their initial interactions were professional, but a connection sparked during the shoot, where Sreevalsan found Shweta to be “relaxed, funny, and humorous.” The two stayed in touch, exchanging messages and meeting occasionally, until their relationship deepened, culminating in Sreevalsan’s proposal in January 2011.

The couple tied the knot at the Neythalappurath Sastha Ayappa temple in Valanchery, Kerala, in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and industry peers. Their marriage has been described as grounded in mutual respect and understanding, with the couple maintaining a low profile despite Shweta’s fame.

Sreevalsan, now the Vice President of Institutional Research at Edelweiss Financial Services Limited in Mumbai, embraces his role as “Shweta Menon’s husband” without insecurity, allowing her to shine in the spotlight.

In 2012, Shweta and Sreevalsan welcomed their daughter, Sabaina Menon, born on September 27 at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. Notably, Shweta’s delivery was filmed for the Malayalam movie Kalimannu, directed by Blessy, a decision that stirred controversy due to its bold depiction of childbirth, but also showcased her commitment to her craft.

Shweta has spoken fondly of her family life with Sreevalsan, emphasizing their shared values as Taureans who are homebodies and rarely get angry but are fiercely supportive of each other.

Addressing rumors about their marriage, Shweta has dismissed speculations of divorce, stating, “Initially, I used to respond to such news. Now, I have learned to laugh off such matters.”
