A graduate of De La Salle University with a degree in business administration, Vicente was a standout athlete, playing for the university’s senior football team from 1973 to 1976 and earlier for La Salle Green Hills’ junior team.

His club career included stints with teams such as San Miguel Corporation, Pepsi Cola, and the Manila Jockey Club, earning accolades, including a runner-up finish in the 1977 Lobregat Cup.

Beyond his playing days, Vicente left a lasting impact as the general manager of the Kaya Football Academy, where he mentored young athletes and fostered a love for the sport. Described by his daughter Valeen as both intimidating and deeply loving, Iñaki instilled in her the values of strength, resilience, and family loyalty.

His influence extended beyond football, as he taught Valeen to stand up against adversity while cherishing those close to her.

Tragically, Iñaki passed away in January 2020 at the age of 65, but his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, including Valeen’s. She continues to honour him by emailing memories and milestones to his account, finding therapeutic comfort in this heartfelt ritual.

Honeylet Montenegro

Honeylet Montenegro, Valeen’s mother, carries a distinguished lineage as the daughter of iconic Filipino actors Mario Montenegro and Letty Alonzo.

Mario, known as “The Brown Adonis,” was a leading man in the 1950s, starring in films like Prinsipe Tenoso and Thor, while Letty was a celebrated actress with LVN Pictures. Honeylet, a former beauty queen, inherited her parents’ charisma and grace, qualities that undoubtedly influenced Valeen’s career in entertainment.

Though Honeylet has maintained a relatively private life compared to her parents’ and daughter’s public personas, her role as a nurturing mother has been pivotal. Following Iñaki’s passing, Valeen made it a priority to shower her mother with love, notably recreating a cherished Valentine’s Day moment from 1979 when Iñaki surprised Honeylet with a giant red balloon.
