Her early works, including Clichy pour l’exemple (2006), about the 2005 French riots, and Les Sénégalaises et la Sénégauloise (2007), about her family in Senegal, focused on marginalized communities.

Her 2011 documentary La Mort de Danton followed a Black aspiring actor and won the Library Award at Cinéma du Réel. In 2016, she released La Permanence (On Call), set in a refugee medical center, and Vers la tendresse (Towards Tenderness), exploring masculinity in the banlieues, the latter earning a César Award.

Her 2020 documentary Nous (We), a tapestry of suburban life along Paris’s RER B line, won the Encounters Award at Berlinale 2021. Her narrative debut, Saint Omer (2022), inspired by the 2016 Fabienne Kabou trial, premiered at Venice, winning the Grand Jury Prize and Luigi De Laurentiis Award.

She also directed an episode of Arte’s 24H series on violence against women. In 2025, she’s working on a film inspired by Michel Leiris’s L’Afrique fantôme. Alice is a member of the 50/50 collective, advocating for gender equality in cinema.
