Duff Goldman began working in kitchens at age fourteen, first at a mall bagel shop and then at McDonald’s.
While in college, he landed a job at Charleston in Baltimore making cornbread and biscuits, which helped launch his culinary career.
After graduation and pastry training at the Culinary Institute of America, he worked at famed kitchens including the French Laundry in Napa Valley and as executive pastry chef at Vail Cascade Hotel in Colorado.
He later returned to Washington, D.C. to bake bread at Todd English’s Olives.
In 2002 he founded Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, initially operating from his home and hiring sculptors, painters and architects as staff to execute elaborate cake designs.
His bakery’s creations were featured on Ace of Cakes (2006–2011), and he expanded with Charm City Cakes West in Los Angeles and the Cakemix studio concept.
He also appeared on Iron Chef America, Food Network Challenge, Man v. Food, Buddy vs. Duff, Duff Till Dawn, Cake Masters, and judged or hosted multiple baking competition shows including Holiday Baking Championship, Spring Baking Championship, Kids Baking Championship, Worst Bakers in America, and Dessert Games.
