Mateusz Gessler was born on 31 July 1980 in Warsaw into a family where gastronomy was everyday life. His father, Adam Gessler, is one of the pioneers of fine dining in post-communist Poland, while his mother, Joanna Fedorowicz-Roqueblave, comes from an artistic background (she is the daughter of the famous Polish satirist Jacek Fedorowicz).
