Career
Alicia Cervantes made her professional debut on July 29, 2017, for Atlas in a match vs Guadalajara. In that 2017 Apertura, she scored 9 goals in 13 appearances. She left Atlas at the end of that tournament because management refused to increase her monthly wage (then about 1,500 Mexican pesos, roughly USD 60) — a decision she has referenced publicly as a turning point in her career.
She signed with Monterrey (Rayadas) for 2018 through 2020. Although early on she had limited playing time, she contributed across tournaments. In Apertura 2019, Monterrey won the Liga MX Femenil title, making her a league champion.
In mid-2020, Cervantes joined Chivas, realizing her childhood dream of playing for her supported club. At Chivas, she rose to become the club’s all-time leading scorer and a consistent golden boot contender.
She won the Liga MX Femenil Golden Boot in Apertura 2021 (17 goals) and Clausura 2022 (14 goals). In February 2024, she scored 6 goals in a single match in Chivas’s 10–2 victory over Santos Laguna, establishing a league record as the first woman to score six goals in one match.
Cervantes received her first call-up to the Mexico women’s national team in 2021. She was included in Mexico’s squad for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, where Mexico went undefeated and won the gold medal in women’s football after defeating Chile 1–0 in the final.
