He was raised at Ormeley Lodge in Ham alongside his siblings Jemima and Ben, and has several half-siblings, including Robin and India Jane Birley from his mother’s first marriage, as well as five paternal half-siblings, including Ben Goldsmith, Jemima Goldsmith, Isabel Goldsmith, and Rupert Birley.
Goldsmith was educated at King’s House School, The Mall School, Hawtreys, and Eton College, from which he was expelled. He later completed his A-Levels at the Cambridge Centre for Sixth-Form Studies.
His heritage is ethnically diverse, with Anglo-Irish aristocratic and Jewish roots, and he identifies with the Jewish faith.

Career
Zac Goldsmith began his professional journey as an environmental journalist, gaining recognition as the editor of The Ecologist magazine.
His commitment to ecological and sustainability issues led him to a political path, and he joined the Conservative Party’s Quality of Life Policy Group in 2005.
In this role, he co-authored key policy reports to integrate environmental priorities into the party’s broader platform, helping shape a more environmentally focused Conservative agenda.
2010 Goldsmith was elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Richmond Park, unseating the Liberal Democrat incumbent. His parliamentary tenure was marked by strong environmental advocacy, particularly his opposition to the expansion of Heathrow Airport.
In 2015, he significantly increased his majority, but a year later, he resigned from Parliament in protest when the government approved a third runway at Heathrow.
He demonstrated his principles and stood as an independent candidate in the subsequent by-election, though he was ultimately defeated.
Goldsmith re-entered Parliament in the 2017 general election, narrowly regaining the Richmond Park seat as a Conservative by just 45 votes.
He was soon appointed to several ministerial positions, including Parliamentary Under-Secretary and later Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Foreign Office, and the Department for International Development.
In these roles, he was responsible for a broad portfolio covering climate change, biodiversity, and animal welfare, serving until June 2023.
