He began playing darts as a toddler after his father purchased a magnetic dartboard, scored his first 180 at age six and achieved a nine-dart finish by thirteen.

At ten he joined the St Helens Darts Academy and competed in under-21 leagues, and he attended Padgate Academy in Warrington for his formal schooling.
