Over the following seasons, he advanced through the Astros’ system, including stops in High-A (Buies Creek) and Double-A (Corpus Christi) in 2017, where he logged a combined 3.38 ERA, 70 strikeouts, and 10 saves.

A setback came in 2018 when he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the entire season.

He returned in 2019 to pitch in the minors with a 4.02 ERA across Corpus Christi and Fayetteville.

In 2021, he had a standout season at Corpus Christi with a 1.67 ERA, 68 strikeouts, and six saves in 32 games.
