Early Life and Education

Rashid Khan was born on September 20, 1998, in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, into a large Pashtun family with ten siblings. Due to the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan during his early years, his family relocated to Pakistan, where they lived in a refugee camp in Peshawar.

It was during this time that Rashid was introduced to cricket, often playing with his brothers. He admired Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi and modelled his bowling action after him.

Upon returning to Afghanistan, Rashid continued his education and cricketing pursuits. He attended Nangarhar High School in Jalalabad. His performances in local matches caught the attention of selectors, leading to his inclusion in the national team.

Rashid Khan got married on October 3, 2024, in Kabul, in a traditional Pashtun ceremony. Interestingly, his three brothers also tied the knot on the same day, making it a significant family celebration.

Career

Rashid Khan made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Afghanistan on October 18, 2015, against Zimbabwe. His T20 International debut followed shortly after on October 26, 2015, also against Zimbabwe. He quickly became a key player for Afghanistan, known for his leg-spin bowling and ability to take wickets in crucial moments.  

In June 2017, he achieved the best bowling figures for an associate nation in an ODI match. By February 2018, he became the youngest player to top the ICC Player Rankings for bowlers in ODIs and T20Is.  

Rashid has played for various T20 franchises worldwide, including Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League (BBL), and Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
