He was raised by his parents, Sharda Devi and Mithu Das Madnani, and grew up with one sibling—Deepali Issar, who is married to actor-director Puneet Issar. Jeet is of Sindhi ethnicity and follows the Hindu faith. He attended The Bhawanipur Education Society College and NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL.

Jeet began his career in modeling in 1993 and made his first acting appearance in the Hindi TV series Vish Briksha (1994-95).
He then had a cameo in the Hindi film Daughters of This Century (2001). His big screen debut was in the Telugu film Chandu in 2001, where he was credited as Pavan Kumar. However, he succeeded significantly in Bengali cinema with his first Bengali film, Sathi (2002), opposite Priyanka Trivedi.
