Leo Eric Varadkar was born on 18 January 1979 in Dublin, Ireland, to Ashok Varadkar, a physician originally from Mumbai, India, and Miriam Howell Varadkar, a nurse from Dungarvan, County Waterford.

He is the youngest of three siblings, with two older sisters, Sophia and Sonia. Varadkar was educated at St Francis Xavier National School in Blanchardstown and The King’s Hospital School in Palmerstown, later pursuing a degree in medicine at Trinity College Dublin.
