Early Life And Education
Sher Shah Suri was born in 1472 in Sasaram, India, to Hasan Khan Sur, a Pashtun Afghan jagirdar, and an unknown mother.
He was one of eight sons, with his only full brother being Nizam Khan; the others were half-brothers from his father’s multiple wives.
Facing family conflicts, especially with a stepmother, he left home to pursue his education in Jaunpur, where he studied Arabic, Persian, history, literature, and religion.
Ethnically, he was of Pashtun Afghan descent and practiced Sunni Islam.

Career
Sher Shah Suri began his career serving under the governor of Bihar, where he gained prominence following the governor’s death in 1528. Taking advantage of the power vacuum, he became the regent and de facto ruler of Bihar.
Overcoming challenges from local nobility and engaging in conflicts with the Bengal Sultanate, Sher Shah decisively conquered Bengal in 1538 while Mughal Emperor Humayun was occupied elsewhere.
