Ronn Moss started learning to play drums, guitar, and electric bass. In 1976, he teamed up with Peter Beckett, J.C. Crowley, and John Friesen to form the band Player. Moss was the bassist and singer. They wrote and rehearsed their music in a garage in the Hollywood Hills. Their hard work caught the attention of music producer Robert Stigwood. He signed them to RSO Records.

In early 1978, their single “Baby Come Back” reached the #1 spot on the national pop charts. Player was recognized as one of the Top New Singles artists of 1978 by Billboard magazine. Their next single, “This Time I’m in It for Love,” also did well and peaked at No. 10 that same year.
