Andrey Rublev is a top-ranked Russian tennis star known for his explosive groundstrokes, relentless energy, and strong mental game. Ranked as high as World No. 5 by the ATP, Rublev has become one of the most exciting players on the professional circuit.

Born on October 20, 1997, in Moscow, Russia, Andrey Andreyevich Rublev grew up in a family deeply connected to sports. His mother, Marina Marenko, is a respected tennis coach who introduced him to the sport at the age of three.

His father, Andrey Rublev Sr., a former professional boxer turned restaurateur, passed down a competitive mindset that has fueled Rublev‘s drive on the court.

Rublev also has a half-sister, Anna Arina Marenko, a former tennis pro and coach, from his mother’s side. Raised in Moscow, he spent much of his early childhood with his paternal grandparents, who cared for him regularly until he was 15 years old. He trained at the Spartak Tennis Club, known for producing elite Russian tennis talent.

Of Russian and Austrian descent through his paternal grandmother, Larisa Genrikhovna Rubleva, Andrey‘s background is a blend of discipline, heritage, and athletic excellence. Marina Marenko, Andrey Rublev’s mother, is a distinguished tennis coach whose expertise and dedication have had a profound impact on her son’s career.

Working at the prestigious Spartak Tennis Club in Moscow, Marina has coached notable players, including former world No. 1 Anna Kournikova, as well as Irina Khromacheva and Daria Gavrilova. Her contributions to Russian tennis earned her the prestigious Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” in 2009, a testament to her influence in the sport.

Marina introduced Andrey to tennis at the tender age of three, handing him a racket and sparking a lifelong passion for the sport. “I don’t even remember how early I started tennis. Whatever I am today is because of my mom, and she has taught me everything in tennis and still does,” Andrey said in a 2016 interview with Sportstar.

As his first coach, Marina laid the foundation for his aggressive playing style and mental resilience, guiding him through his formative years before he transitioned to professional coaches like Belarusian Sergey Tarasevich and Spaniard Fernando Vicente.

Beyond coaching, Marina has been a steadfast supporter, fiercely advocating for her son. She fought the Russian Tennis Federation to secure better sponsorship deals for Andrey during his amateur days, ensuring he had the resources to compete at the highest levels.

During the challenging 2022 season, when Andrey faced intense media pressure over the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Marina defended his courage in advocating for peace, calling him a “hero” for standing firm under scrutiny. Her unwavering presence remains a cornerstone of Andrey’s support system.

Marina is also the mother of Anna Arina Marenko, Andrey’s older half-sister, a former professional tennis player who reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of 411. Anna, now a coach, shares the family’s deep connection to tennis, further highlighting Marina’s influence in nurturing athletic talent.

Andrey Rublev Sr., Andrey’s father, brings a different but equally impactful influence to his son’s life. A former professional boxer, he transitioned into a successful career as a restaurant manager, overseeing a chain of approximately 14 establishments offering diverse cuisines, including Russian, Japanese, and Italian.

Andrey Jr. has shared that he rarely eats at home, often dining at his father’s restaurants, with a particular fondness for Italian cuisine prepared by authentic Italian chefs.

Rublev Sr.’s athletic background as a boxer instilled a sense of discipline and competitiveness in his son. Andrey credits his father for fostering his fighting spirit, often joining him in the gym during his boxing days and observing intense training sessions.
