Sarwendah Tan, born Wenda Tan on August 29, 1989, in Jakarta, Indonesia, is a well-known Indonesian singer, actress, and entrepreneur of Chinese descent.

Raised in a modest family with strong roots in Jambi, Sarwendah grew up with values of humility, resilience, and hard work—principles passed down from her parents, Hendri Klow and Rospita Tyoa.

As the eldest of three siblings, she shares a close bond with her younger brother, Wendy Joe Octavianus and sister, Dennise Lo. Her deep Christian faith has remained a constant influence throughout her personal and professional journey.

Sarwendah‘s education took her across Asia. After finishing elementary school in Jakarta, she continued her studies in Malaysia, later earning a scholarship to complete high school in Taiwan.

She went on to earn a degree in Mandarin Literature from a university in Beijing, China, becoming fluent in Mandarin—a skill she used early in her career as a teacher and translator before entering the entertainment industry.

In 2013, Sarwendah married popular Indonesian presenter Ruben Onsu. Together, they have two daughters, Thalia Putri Onsu and Thania Putri Onsu, and an adopted son, Betrand Peto Putra Onsu. The couple divorced in 2024, and as of July 2025, Sarwendah has not publicly confirmed any new relationship. She is currently focused on her career, parenting, and personal growth.

Hendri played a pivotal role in supporting Sarwendah’s education and career. He encouraged her international studies, which took her to Malaysia, Taiwan, and Beijing, where she earned a degree in Mandarin Literature. Tragically, Hendri passed away on July 19, 2025, at age 63, after a sudden decline in health. His death, mourned at Rumah Duka Grand Heaven in Jakarta, left Sarwendah and her family devastated, with her emotional Instagram post reflecting the deep bond they shared. Hendri’s legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, Thalia, Thania, and Betrand Peto.

Rospita Tyoa

Rospita Tyoa, Sarwendah’s mother, remains a vital presence in the family, embodying resilience and warmth. Also hailing from Jambi, Rospita shares her husband’s modest lifestyle, living in a simple home that contrasts with Sarwendah’s luxurious residence in Jakarta.

Her hospitality shines through in family videos, where she welcomed Sarwendah, her ex-husband Ruben Onsu, and their granddaughter Thalia with open arms.

Rospita’s youthful spirit was celebrated during her 56th birthday on September 20, 2023, an event organized by Sarwendah that highlighted their close mother-daughter bond. Like Hendri, Rospita supported Sarwendah’s global education, fostering her fluency in Mandarin and her adaptability, which propelled her into the entertainment industry.
