Khaled Abol Naga was born on 2 November 1976 in Cairo, Egypt. He grew up in Heliopolis in a military and landowning family; his father was an army major, and his mother later traced their ancestry to the Prophet Muhammad through Fatima and Husayn.

He attended St. George’s College, then studied telecommunications engineering at Ain Shams University (graduating in 1989) and minored in theatre at the American University in Cairo from 1990 to 1993.
