Meet Zyzz’s Parents: Maiane Iboian and Sergei Shavershian

Aziz Shavershian, better known to the world as “Zyzz,” rose to prominence in the late 2000s and early 2010s as a fitness and bodybuilding icon, captivating millions with his chiselled physique, magnetic personality, and unapologetic confidence.

Born on March 24, 1989, in Moscow, Russia, Aziz was of Armenian descent. During his childhood, he immigrated with his family to Sydney, Australia, where he grew up in a vibrant, multicultural environment. His Armenian heritage suggests possible cultural ties to the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Aziz was raised in a supportive, disciplined household by his parents, Maiane Iboian and Sergei Shavershian. He had one older brother, Said Shavershian—known in the fitness community as “Chestbrah.”

Growing up, Aziz described himself as a “skinny kid,” struggling with self-esteem and body image. These early challenges fueled his determination to reinvent himself, ultimately transforming him into the global fitness personality admired by countless fans.

Maiane Iboian

Maiane Iboian, Zyzz‘s mother, was a cornerstone of emotional support in his life. Of Armenian descent, she brought a deep sense of family and cultural pride to the Shavershian household after immigrating to Australia from Russia.

Described as caring and devoted, Maiane fostered an environment where Aziz felt encouraged to pursue his passions, even as he grappled with insecurities about his physique in his youth.

Her nurturing presence gave Zyzz the confidence to transform from a self-described “skinny kid” into the confident Zyzz, whose bold persona captivated fans worldwide.

Maiane‘s role extended beyond emotional support; she helped Aziz stay grounded as his online fame grew. While Zyzz‘s public image was larger-than-life, those close to him noted his humility and connection to his roots, qualities likely reinforced by Maiane‘s guidance.

After Aziz‘s sudden passing in 2011, Maiane‘s strength in coping with the loss of her son reflected the same resilience she had passed on to him.

Sergei Shavershian

Sergei Shavershian, Zyzz‘s father, played an equally vital role in shaping his son’s drive and ambition. Also of Armenian heritage, Sergei brought a practical and disciplined perspective to the family, having navigated the challenges of immigration to build a life in Sydney.

His guidance was instrumental as Aziz pursued his fitness goals and later ventured into the business side of his Zyzz persona, including the development of supplements and merchandise. Sergei‘s encouragement helped Aziz channel his energy into transforming his body and building a brand that resonated with a global audience.

Sergei‘s influence is seen in Aziz‘s work ethic and determination, qualities that turned Zyzz into a symbol of self-improvement. His role as a steady, motivating force allowed Aziz to take risks and embrace his unique path.

Following Aziz‘s tragic death at 22 from a congenital heart condition, Sergei’s quiet strength, alongside Maiane‘s, helped the family navigate their grief. His legacy lives on through Aziz‘s impact and the continued efforts of his brother, Said, to honour the Zyzz name.
