[STORY] Discover happiness in a box. Limited edition. Cancel anytime
I’ll be honest with you—subscription boxes have always been my guilty pleasure.
From beauty boxes to fitness snacks, I’m the type to hit “Subscribe Now” after watching just two YouTube unboxings.

But last month, something wild happened.
It started on a lazy Friday afternoon. I was scrolling through TikTok when an ad popped up:
“Discover happiness in a box. Limited edition. Cancel anytime.”
It was a wellness subscription box filled with self-care items, teas, journals, and skincare. The influencer’s unboxing of it had me hypnotized. The lavender candle alone looked like it could fix my entire life. I thought, Why not?
I clicked Subscribe.
The package arrived in pastel purple wrapping, with gold-foiled letters spelling: “Breathe. Heal. Glow.”
I remember whispering, “Wow, they got me already.”
Inside was a jade roller, herbal tea sachets, a gratitude journal, and a small mystery card that said:
“Write your fears. Burn the paper. Sip your tea. Start again.”
I laughed out loud, “Who writes this stuff?” but deep down, it hit me.
A week later, life slapped me. Hard.
My boss dropped a project deadline on me last minute. I felt my anxiety kicking in—palms sweaty, chest tight. That night, I saw the untouched subscription box on my desk.
“Okay… let’s see if this thing works,” I muttered.
I brewed the tea, rolled the jade stone across my face, and opened the journal. I started writing about how trapped I felt, how I hated always pretending I was “fine.”
Then, as if life had a sense of humor, the twist came.
Inside the journal’s back pocket was another hidden card I hadn’t noticed before. It read:
“Your story matters. Share your review with us—maybe it saves someone else.”
At first, I chuckled. “Typical marketing.” But then, something in me said, Why not?
I wrote a long, raw review on their website—no filters, no fake “loved it sooo much” energy. I talked about my anxiety, about how writing even a few lines that night kept me from spiraling.
The next morning, I got an email.
“Hi Kaptain Kush, thank you for your honest review. One of our therapists-in-residence read your story and would love to offer you a free session.”
Wait. A therapist? From a subscription box company?
I was shook.
The free session turned into me finally starting therapy—something I had been procrastinating for years. And guess what? That all started from one subscription box review.
Sometimes, we think these boxes are just products. But for me, it became a lifeline.
Therapist: “You don’t have to keep everything inside. Even writing is a form of healing.”
Me: “Funny, I only subscribed for free tea.”
Therapist: “And maybe you got what you really needed.”
