Akın Akınözü was born on September 22, 1990, in Ankara, Turkey. He is the only child of actress Özlem Akınözü and restaurateur Tamer Akınözü.

His maternal grandfather, Süreyya Arın, was among the first television presenters on TRT, while his great-uncle, Süha Arın, is regarded as one of the pioneers of Turkish documentary filmmaking.
