Amar Kaushik came into the world on August 4, 1983, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, to Mr. Kaushik and Shashi Kaushik, his father served as a forest ranger with the Indian Forest Service while his mother is a school teacher.
He spent his early years in Medo, Arunachal Pradesh, before the family returned to Kanpur when he was around ten years old. He grew up with his brother Arun Kaushik and sister Kiran Kaushik.

Amar Kaushik began his career in the film industry after moving to Mumbai in 2006.
He started as an assistant director on Raj Kumar Gupta’s Aamir in 2008 and continued collaborating with Gupta as associate director on No One Killed Jessica and Ghanchakkar.
He also worked as an assistant and associate director with filmmakers such as Onir on projects including Sorry Bhai!, I Am, and Shab, while taking small acting roles in several of these films.
Seeking to establish his own voice, he directed the short film Aaba in 2017, based on a story narrated by his mother.
Shot in Arunachal Pradesh with largely non-professional actors, Aaba premiered at international festivals, won the Special Prize of the Generation Kplus International Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival, and received the National Film Award for Best Short Fiction Film.
Amar Kaushik’s feature directorial debut arrived with the horror-comedy Stree in 2018, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor.
