Early Life and Education

Ben Cura was born on September 30, 1988, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is currently 38 years old. He is the son of internationally acclaimed Argentine opera tenor and conductor José Cura and Silvia Ibarra.

He grew up alongside his younger sister Yazmín and younger brother Nicolás in a family where music and performance were already deeply embedded in everyday life.

His childhood was unusually international. When he was about a year old, his family moved from Argentina to Santo Stefano Belbo in Italy, where his father’s family had roots.

The family later relocated to France when Cura was six and Spain when he was eleven, while his father’s career also required frequent international travel. He therefore spent his formative years experiencing several languages, cultures, and artistic environments.

Cura developed an interest in performance early. At nine, he appeared as a supernumerary in a production of La Forza del Destino at the Opéra de Marseille in France.

While living in Paris, he received formal training in piano and solfège and also studied at the New York Film Academy’s Paris location. He eventually moved to London and enrolled at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, graduating in 2011 with a BA with Honours in Classical Acting for the Professional Theatre.

Personal Life

Ben Cura was previously married to actress Andrea Deck. The couple married in 2013 after meeting during their early professional years in London, but their marriage ended in divorce in 2015.

They also co-founded the London-based production company Tough Dance Ltd. in 2013, combining their interests in acting and independent production.

Following his divorce, Cura entered a relationship with French-Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko. The pair were together from around 2017 until 2020, when their relationship ended shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic.

They were photographed together at various public events during their relationship, but they did not marry and have no children together.

Career

Ben Cura began establishing himself professionally in the early 2010s, working across theatre, film, and television. His stage career included his West End debut as Angel in Jennifer Saunders‘ musical Viva Forever! at London’s Piccadilly Theatre.

He later appeared as Brandon in the UK premiere of Next Fall at the Southwark Playhouse, demonstrating his ability to move between musical theatre and serious contemporary drama.

His film career developed alongside his stage work. He appeared in Comes a Bright Day and The Devil’s Violinist before taking on the role of Seve Ballesteros in the British golf film Seve.

He subsequently appeared in projects including Gun Shy, White Island, 15 Minutes of War, and other European and international productions.

Cura expanded his responsibilities when he made his directorial debut with Creditors, a film adaptation of August Strindberg’s play. He wrote the screenplay, produced the film, directed it, and played one of its leading characters, Freddie Lynch.

The project demonstrated the broader creative role he wanted to establish beyond acting and earned recognition at independent film festivals.

He continued working in television with appearances in productions including Marcella, White Lines, and The Head. His work also reached the video-game industry when he voiced Ransome in Alien: Isolation, giving him another outlet for his performance skills.

Cura reached a new international audience in 2023 when he appeared as Prince Augustus in Netflix’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The historical romance series served as a prequel to Bridgerton and introduced him to a substantially larger global streaming audience.

His later work included appearances in The Gray House and other film and television productions, while he continued developing projects as a filmmaker and musician. His creative career has remained deliberately broad, allowing him to work as an actor while also writing, directing, producing, and composing.

Music has become another significant part of Cura‘s artistic identity. Under the Curasonic name, he has released electronic and neo-classical material, including Water, Toutes Les Couleurs, Argento, Extended Play No. 1, Cyber, and Modern Life. He has also contributed music to film projects, including the score for Among the Beasts.
