He began making films with a VHS camera around nine years old and entered the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2001, graduating in 2005.
Career
Brett Haley began his professional filmmaking career after graduating from UNCSA, initially working as an assistant to directors Terry George and John Hillcoat. He made his feature directorial debut with The New Year in 2010.
He later directed I’ll See You in My Dreams, The Hero, Hearts Beat Loud, All the Bright Places, and All Together Now. In 2026, he directed Netflix’s People We Meet on Vacation, starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth.
