He is the youngest of four boys and grew up with three older brothers in an artistic household; his father was a high-school English and drama teacher and amateur cartoonist, while his mother was a writer, painter and singer.
At 18 months old, Horak was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, resulting in the removal of his right eye and severe vision loss in his left eye.
