Career
Eythor Gudjonsson built his first professional reputation outside acting, combining athletic achievement with business and marketing experience.
His career in sports saw him become a two-time Icelandic national champion in team handball, while his later work with Walt Disney Home Video introduced him to the entertainment business from a commercial perspective.
His marketing role lasted approximately five years and included responsibility for promoting Disney’s home-video products in Iceland.
His reported sales achievement surrounding The Lion King in 1995 became one of the notable milestones of his early professional life.
After leaving Disney, he continued developing his entrepreneurial interests rather than pursuing conventional theatrical training.
His background in business, sport, and entertainment eventually placed him in a position to make an unexpected transition into film.
Eythor Gudjonsson entered international cinema in 2005 when Eli Roth cast him as Óli in the horror film Hostel. Remarkably, he had no previous professional acting experience or formal drama training before receiving the role.
Roth had encountered him in Iceland and was impressed by his personality and presence, subsequently creating the character of Óli specifically for him.
The film, produced by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Roth, became an international commercial success and gave Eyþór considerable visibility among global audiences.
His performance as the charismatic Icelandic backpacker became his defining acting credit.
He later returned to the production as an associate producer for Hostel: Part II in 2007, expanding his involvement from acting into filmmaking and production.

He has also been associated with businesses involving animation and real estate and opened an activity park in Reykjavík in 2009.
His professional journey therefore extends well beyond his limited filmography, with entrepreneurship remaining a central part of his career.
Nevertheless, his performance in Hostel continues to represent his most recognizable contribution to international cinema.
