At age 16, he graduated from the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey (1967), scoring a perfect 800 on the SAT math section. He entered Cornell University’s engineering program but dropped out during his junior year in December 1969 to pursue music full-time. He is of Irish and Polish ancestry; his religious beliefs are not publicly known.

Huey Lewis began his music career playing harmonica and singing in various Bay Area bands, including Clover, which toured with Elvis Costello.
