Early Life And Education.

James J. Cramer was born on February 10, 1955, in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. He was raised by Jewish parents. His mother, Louise A. Cramer, was an artist, while his father, N. Ken Cramer, was an entrepreneur who owned a packaging company. 

Cramer attended Springfield Township High School in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and graduated in 1973. During his high school years, he developed a keen interest in the stock market, memorizing stock symbols, and managing an imaginary portfolio.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, he continued to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. At Harvard, he also served as the President and Editor-in-Chief of The Harvard Crimson student newspaper. 

While attending law school, he discovered a renewed interest in the stock market and began exploring career opportunities in journalism. He briefly worked as a reporter for the Tallahassee Democrat and The American Lawyer before pursuing a career in financial journalism.
