Early Life

Josh O’Connor came to be on 20 May 1990 in the city of Southampton, England.

He is a Christian with British nationality.

His father, John O’Connor, is a teacher, while his mother, Emily O’Connor, is a midwife.

He is the second child of three boys; his older brother is an artist, while his younger brother, named Seb O’Connor, is an ecological economist and a PhD researcher.

Josh O’Connor grew up in Newbury until he was five years old when his family relocated to Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, where he had his entire upbringing.

He originates from a linage of an artistic family. His grandfather, John Bunting, was a British sculptor, while his grandmother was a ceramist. His maternal aunt is a writer and commentator named Madeleine Bunting.

Like his grandparents, Josh wanted to be an artist when he was younger. But, unfortunately, he wasn’t good enough, so he had to switch career as a rugby player and soon enough became an actor.

He then acted alongside his then-girlfriend Hannah Murray in the film Bridgend. The film sold out in its premiere in Copenhagen.

In 2017, he appeared as a young sheep Shepard Johnny Saxby in the British drama film titled God’s Own Country, directed by the renowned Francis Lee.
