Early Life and Education

Mahsun Kırmızıgül, now 57 years old, was born Abdullah Bazencir on March 26, 1969, in the Vezir village of Hani, Diyarbakır. He was one of 22 children born into a Zaza family to Çerkez Bezencir and Faika Bezencir. Shortly after his birth, his father left the household and moved to Bingöl, leaving his mother and children behind.

The family later moved to central Diyarbakır when Kırmızıgül reached school age, where he completed his primary and secondary education.

After his father’s departure and the death of his older brother in a workplace accident, Kırmızıgül began working at a young age to help support his family. He worked at a çiğ köfte shop and served tea while also discovering that his singing ability could provide another source of income.

He began performing at local weddings and eventually attracted attention for his voice. In 1984, he was invited to Istanbul to make his first recordings, marking the beginning of his professional music journey.

Raised in a traditional Zaza household, he practiced Islam as part of his family’s religious background. He later studied in the Voice Department of the Istanbul University Turkish Music Conservatory, where he continued developing his knowledge and skills in Turkish music.

The following year, he became involved with Prestij Müzik as a producer and business partner, helping expand the company’s influence within the Turkish music industry.

His success continued with albums such as Yıkılmadım, Yoruldum, Yüzyılın Türküleri, Sarı Sarı / Başroldeyim, and Dinle. He followed it with Güneşi Gördüm in 2009 and later directed projects including Five Minarets in New York, Mucize, Vezir Parmağı, and Mucize 2: Aşk. His film work frequently explores themes involving migration, family, social inequality, cultural conflict, and human resilience.
